NETHERLANDS NATIONAL ICID COMMITTEE
(NETHCID)

The Netherlands National Committee of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (NETHCID) is constituted by the Board of the Division of Landuse and Water Management of the Royal Institution of Engineers in The Netherlands (KIVI NIRIA).

Due to the specialised character of the subject an Executive ICID Committee has been established, consisting of specialists with international experience in the field of irrigation, drainage and flood control. The tasks of the Executive Committee are among others:

  • maintaining of contacts with the international secretariat and the other member countries;
  • dissemination of ICID-information in The Netherlands;
  • co-ordination and preparation of Netherlands contributions for ICID-publications and contributing to international publications;
  • preparation of nominations for ICID functions, membership of working groups, etc.

Netherlands National ICID Days

Since 1995 the NETHCID organises annually at the occasion of the World Water Day at March 22 the Netherlands National ICID day. The following themes have been presented and discussed during these days:

  • Computer models in irrigation water management;
  • Farmers participation in water management;
  • Financial aspects of water management;
  • Information in operational water management control, operation and maintenance;
  • Data bases en remote sensing for the benefit of water management;
  • Dams and dikes in development;
  • Modernisation of irrigation and drainage systems;
  • River basin management arounde the world;
  • Local water management in (semi-)arid irrigated areas;
  • Impact of climate change on water maangement;
  • Water management for food production in Africa.
  • The water professional of Tomorrow.
